MINISTER of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo has urged citizens to start practicing good personal hygiene and standards of cleanliness in public spaces for prevention against Covid-19.
His call comes in the wake of cases in neighbouring country South Africa which continue to rise.
Dr Moyo said Zimbabweans should aim to ensure the cleanliness of public spaces, good personal hygiene and adjust social norms to reduce the spread of diseases.
“Basic hygiene measures may seem obvious, but they are important.
“It is essential that our population starts to practice new behaviour patterns and act like it’s in Zimbabwe though it is not.
“Washing hands with plain soap and plain water kills viruses, but only if it’s done thoroughly and often.
“One should wash hands when caring for the sick, after toilet use, before eating food, before, during and after preparing and when hands are dirty and after handling animals or animal waste.
“I also encourage people to change greeting patterns,” he said.
More than 160 000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported and 6 507 deaths as of Monday. Hmetro
